Corporate Shareholder Organizing

As the largest corporations have sales that approach the budget of the U.S. Government, new politics have emerged to influence these "governments without a country." A basic strategy is for an activist or group to purchase stock in an offending corporation. The shareholder then gets on the agenda to speak to the annual stockholders' meeting. This meeting presents an opportunity to explain a corporation’s destructive activities to a fairly powerful group. Some activists have warned a Canadian corporation that failure to stop destructive logging would precipitate a large negative media campaign to damage overall sales of the corporation. TOP
