SLIDE 15

This is a close-up image of the Maxus Road in Yasuní National Park. Note the deforestation along the road (in light blue). NASA researcher Dr. Jonathon Greenberg estimates that in 50 years, half of the forest within 2 km of the road will be gone.

And Dr. Larry Dew from the University of New Orleans has found that because of the road access, hunting rates for woolly monkeys is occurring at an unsustainable rate, threatening the species with local extinction.

This road is now controlled by the Spanish oil company Repsol YPF.
